Biographie
Fils de calligraphe, Chen Weinong, né en 1962 dans la province du Zhejiang, est diplômé de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Hangzhou en 1988.
Il interprète librement les règles de la calligraphie ; son art mêle les techniques de l’art abstrait à la calligraphie chinoise traditionnelle. Il a su garder d’une éducation assez classique un usage très savant, très maîtrisé du pinceau tout en laissant libre cours à une grande passion créatrice.
Chen Weinong travaille en noir et blanc. Malgré la bichromie traditionnelle de ses encres, il s’en dégage une puissance et une sensibilité toute printanière qui réservent des contrastes surprenants entre le plein et le vide, la présence et l’absence, l’obscurité et la lumière. Bien que son inspiration naît de son observation de la nature, Chen Weinong ne prône pas le réalisme : « Par le maniement du pinceau, l’artiste est libre de créer pour chaque peinture un monde en soi avec ses propres éléments », souligne-t-il.
La puissance qui se dégage de son travail lui a valu la reconnaissance de l’artiste Zao Wou-Ki lors de son passage à Paris.
Il vit et travaille actuellement entre Paris et Haining (Chine).
COMMENTAIRE
« Chen Weinong fait parti de ce groupe de peintres d’exception, qui maintient en vie trois mille ans de peinture chinoise. J’entends par vie, cette jeunesse toujours renouvelée de la plante qui refleurit de la graine primordiale. Chen Weinong utilise les trois trésors qui ont créé la richesse de la peinture chinoise depuis les premières dynasties : le papier, le pinceau, l’encre.
La calligraphie de Chen Weinong est alerte, nerveuse, vigoureuse. Tantôt grasse, tantôt gracile, elle trace des portées verticales d’idéogrammes bondissants. Son chant secret exprime la force.
Je parcours ses œuvres d’encre aux savantes dilutions qui créent toutes les illusions. S’y insinue discrètement la calligraphie qui ne veut pas se faire oublier. Elle s’attache tendrement au pinceau qui lui a donné vie.
Les créations de notre ami, ses abstractions lyriques qui se déploient en ondes et stries sur le papier ne décrivent pas des paysages. Par contre, en un correspondance mystérieuse, elles ravivent ces sensations intimes qui naissent lors de la contemplation du ciel, de la montagne, de la mer. »
