LIU Wei
Liu Wei est né à Pékin en 1965 et sort diplomé de l’Académie Centrale des Beaux-Arts de Pékin en 1989. Il vit et travaille toujours actuellement à Pékin. Après avoir été un des artistes majeurs du style "Réaliste Cynique", Liu Wei s'est aujourd'hui tourné vers des thèmes plus personnels, plus universels aussi avec ses sortes de paysages hallucinés rescapés de quelques catastrophes nucléaires d'où émergent des slogans relatifs à la protection de la nature et de la santé des hommes.

Liu Wei est né à Pékin en 1965 et sort diplomé de l’Académie Centrale des Beaux-Arts de Pékin en 1989. Il vit et travaille toujours actuellement à Pékin. Il travaille dans les médias variés – vidéo, installation, dessin, sculpture et la peinture – sans tendance unification stylistique. Après avoir été un des artistes majeurs du style « Réaliste Cynique », Liu Wei s’est aujourd’hui tourné vers des thèmes plus personnels, plus universels aussi avec ses sortes de paysages hallucinés rescapés de quelques catastrophes nucléaires d’où émergent des slogans relatifs à la protection de la nature et de la santé des hommes.
COMMENTAIRE
Fils de général, Liu Wei est l’un des protagonistes avec Fang Lijun du mouvement réalisme cynique. Ses personnages déformés paraissent se liquéfier et évoquent la contamination et la pourrriture en conservant toutefois une certaine poésie et une certaine poésie tendresse. Le sujet de sa série « No smoking » évoque la pollution dans l’environnement comme dans les esprits. En constante recherche, passant par plusieurs périodes, Liu Wei épure de plus en plus sa peinture, laissant des parties du tableau en réserve, péignant avec un brio extraordinaire. Il compte parmi les peintres Chinois les plus talentueux.
