Allegory Bridge Qiu Zhijie

Qiu Zhijie is Born in Fujian Province in China in 1969. In 1992 he graduated from The National Academy Of Fine Art and he works in the printmaking department. But now he lives in Beijing as a full-time artist. As well as an art critic and curator.

Qiu is known for his calligraphy, photography and video installation works. He had shown his works all over the world. Like Inside Out: New Chinese Art at P.S.I Museum at New York. Also at the San Francisco Museum of modern art. In 1998 it shows it in Beijing, in London or at ICA in London. In 1999 he did Power of the Word at the Faulconer Gallery and other exhibitions at Grinnell College, Iowa or U.S.A.2000. He works too on  Haus Der Kulturen der Welt at berlin. Then the Queens Museum in New York in 2001 and the 25th San Polo Biennial in Brazil.

ART

In the middle of the 1990s, Qiu also wrote a lot about Chinese conceptual art and performance art, which lead to the so-called controversy of signification. The most important debate in art theory in the Chinese art world. In his artwork, he always put some text in it. His art is qualified as "calli-photo-graphy". He masters photography, painting, video and performance. That lead him to installation. Qiu Zhijie wants to deal with Chinese history and self-assertion itself. Here we see a bridge with an inscription. We see graffiti in the air. It is a photomontage of 2005. Therefore these inscriptions are positive messages, including memory and hope.
