Astrid Staes

Astrid Staes is a young emerging photographer based in Paris. Trained as an actress, she has developed a passion for staging, scenography, architecture, and the photography of empty spaces in recent years. She has made the Japanese phenomenon of kodokushi her subject of study.

Photography invites us to consider the idea that light possesses a memory. The photographs Astrid Staes presents are an invitation to solitude and absence. In this soft light floats a bygone time, an amalgam of sensations and emotions, the skin of the soul delicately suspended by the photographer.

The photographs from Echos des Ruines bear witness to a devastated, silent, and hostile nature. Yet she imbues them with a certain poetry, reminiscent of a walk through the desert. The prints were presented by Françoise Paviot and Domitille d’Orgeval during a public roundtable. The master printer Diamantino created the prints.
