Born in Paris in 1975, Quentin Garel graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1998 and lived at Casa Velazquez (1998-2000).
His work of sculpture, in bronze, iron, wood or porcelain, is characterized by the creation of a bestiary, sometimes very realistic, sometimes reduced to a state of skeleton. Garel explains: «In recent years,
I have developed a sculpture work involving various wood assemblies around the theme of the trophy; proud custom of the man whom I try to divert in favor of the animals of consumption by denouncing the derisory character of this practice. I prolonged theme through the cast iron which gives it a more monumental dimension and put it to the outside. » Excellent draftsman, Garel works on the subjects of his sculptures upstream on paper and completes each of his sculptures exhibitions with a series of sketches and preparatory studies.
However, Garel does not forget his first interests and continues his work on the skeleton, with the production of skulls of sheep or orcas, or skulls of birds (albatross, flamingo, …), while responding in parallel to new public or private commissions (Region of HauteNormandie, Carpe Diem Tower by Aviva in La Défense) and developing a career in the United States (New York, Houston).
