ARTIST
Born in 1966 in the Chinese province of Hubei, Wang Qingsong graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Chengdu in Sichuan. He has lived and worked in Beijing since 1993. From 1990, he devoted himself more specifically to photography. Wang Qingsong portrays himself through various scenarios. His installations and performances represent, with a rather radical perspective, the upheavals operating on Chinese society. Through diversions as inventive as they are irreverent of classical themes and works from China and the West, he evokes the accelerated modernization of his country and its shift to excessive consumption. It denounces, in a disturbing and crazy way, an uncontrollable, overwhelming and totalitarian mass culture, in the deluge of images of which men and their landmarks are engulfed.
