The artist
Crossing eras and continents, Philippe Hiquily is one of those sculptors who have marked their time while constantly reinventing their work. With his skillful and precise hands, over the years he has become the champion of sensual curves and delicate female bodies, beautiful patinas and fragile balances.
A cynical and amused poet, he possesses great humor and a thirst for demanding and discreet creation, as well as a strong personality which made him an essential witness of the second half of the 20th century. Both provocative and generous, he is one of those artists who are true to themselves and whose intense production has never been altered by either the effects of fashions or the good wishes of the art market.
For him "the purpose of sculpture is to amaze. "And it was through metal that he chose to do it.
During more than fifty years of creation he took pleasure in animating it, twisting it or skating it, gradually discovering the thousands of possibilities of transformation and arrangement offered to him by iron, steel or brass.
